As sons and daughters of the light, we’re called to persist in prayer. But the question is “What should I pray for?”
In the first place, always remember that God will NEVER grant you a request that is not in accordance with his glorious, perfect will. He’d not grant you a request that’d wreck you. He’d never gift you a ‘scorpion’ no matter how long or how hard you pray and ask for it. He loves you that much.
We persist in prayer not to change God’s mind but to become aware of his will and become transformed by and conformed to this his perfect will. We keep praying not because God cannot hear us but because we need to hear God speak. Sometimes, God doesn’t change our situation because he’s busy trying to change us.
In the Lord’s prayer (which is the perfect template for prayer), Jesus teaches us to always pray that God’s will (not my will) be done on earth as it is in heaven (Mat. 6:10). Jesus also demonstrated to us in his prayer at the Garden of Gethsemane (Mat. 26:39) that we should always ultimately submit to the will of God the Father after making our intentions known to God. Our Mother Mary also exemplifies this perfect submission to the divine will when she received the ‘disturbing’ message from the Archangel (Luke 1:38).
Sometimes, submitting to God’s will doesn’t make so much sense but be always assured that his plans for you are of welfare and not of harm, to give you a future with a hope (Jer. 29:11). ALL things would work together for your good if you love God and remain in his love (Rom. 8:28).
Though your miracle may tarry, wait for it, it is for the APPOINTED time (Hab. 2:3) and when God restores your fortunes and wasted years, it’d seem like a daydream (Ps. 126).
Don’t compromise because of your impatience. Don’t abuse your freedom of choice because of unfavourable situations. The sufferings we now experience cannot be compared to the glory that awaits us (Rom. 8:18).
Keep trusting God even when trusting him doesn’t make sense. He ALONE knows the end from the beginning (Isa. 46:9-10).
Peace be with you!!!
