Before understanding who we are and who we should be, it is important that some emphasis about who you were in the past be stressed on a bit because, who you once were have become someone better/worse. Who you were in the past, the past experiences and so on have made you better or worse (as Christians the aim should be to be better).
Remember God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Even from the foundation of the world, He has been our savior who was, who is and is to come (Malachi 3:6a says; for I am God, I do not change). So you see, Jesus had a past, a present and a future which were a constant because He is God all by himself.
We as Christians and humans; change constantly with the aim of living up to Gods standards and making heaven at last. This makes our past self and present self, important because when you discover through the walk of life that your present self isn’t living Gods way, you have to let it become a past so as to become better, right?
Your pasts should be stepping stones to becoming a better you; your past should make you better rather than break you; your pasts become sources of testimonies when you look back and see battles that you were able to conquer and the role model you have become to others as a result.
Who were you?
Were you a onetime goal-setter but never an achiever?
Were you a onetime procrastinator?
Were you a committee of friend’s kind of person with no purpose?
Did you have an addiction that held you down for years?
Were you one who never wanted to be tagged a nonentity but you seriously had no goals or pursuit before now?
The good news is this: all you were in the past doesn’t matter anymore; what matters now is who you are and who you should aspire to become!
To understand who you should be, letting go of your past is an essential factor.
One thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind (past) and reaching forth unto those things which are before (future). (Philippians 3:13)
The future is Gods perfect destination.
To every destination, there is a map or direction or course; which we all should follow.
For our homeland is heaven. (Philippians 3:20a)
Don’t let past errors and shortcomings keep you from moving on; don’t let it make you take a wrong route in life; don’t let it limit you. To get to that destination, we have to run life’s course; doing what God expects from us.
Jeremiah understood this; he knew it was not in man’s power to trade upon right paths without help from God;
Oh Lord, I know it is not within man’s power to map out his life and plan his course. (Jeremiah 10:23)
A man’s heart devises his ways but the Lord directs his steps. (Proverbs 16:9)
Whatever that great plans you have may be, just know that your maker knows you by name and he has a perfect PLAN for your life; submit your plans to him and he will direct your path.
Amiss do we journey if we do not seek the help of the spirit of God who teaches us all truth and through whom God’s perfect plans will be made known to us. Amiss do we trail if we work by our own understanding and fleshy plans. Amiss!
Pause for a moment and breathe!
Acknowledge in your heart that the “who you are now” must become who God wants you to be.
Cut off from your past, look towards the future that shines so bright that your human eye can’t behold; seek the Holy Spirit to let you into Gods plan for your life.
What is God’s plan for you? What?
This you must discover by revelations of the Holy Spirit.
Decide today to walk that course He mapped out for you.
Along this course, have in mind that the endpoint should be heaven and live right!
The need for the word of God cannot be overemphasized.
Take a walk step by step abiding in God’s word and in constant place of prayer.
When everything you do speaks God, God will be in all your matter. Just put him first!
Who are you?
You are a god. (Psalm 82:6)
You bear the spirit of sonship to be co heirs with Jesus. (You have to recognize that you are free and do not let the enemy make you believe you are in bondage.)
You have the Holy Ghost here on earth with us for greater works; just ask him to takeover.
Authority over powers of darkness has been bestowed upon you.
You have been given power to ask anything by FAITH and it shall be given.
You are a child of covenant; a greater covenant by the blood of Jesus speaks on your behalf.
You can do ALL things through Christ that strengthens you.
It goes on and on.
The problem is that most of us don’t know who we are.
Once you are aware of who you are in Christ Jesus, you will have a picture of who you should become by revelations through the Holy Spirit; this should be our pursuit; to live only for him doing what he wants of us discovered by constant fellowship with him.
Just consume the word of God and discover hidden truths about whom you are and you will discover who you are meant to be in the place of study and prayer.
You are Unique!
